After ten years in the marine insurance industry in the City of London and ten years with a major cross-border law firm in London and New York, specialising in shipping, international trade and capital markets, he opened his own practice in 1996.
Core business centres on litigation, mediation and arbitration (under LCIA, ICC, LMAA rules, FOSFA and GAFTA rules), non-contentious drafting and advice on setting up businesses in the UK and Brazil.
International shipping and insurance dispute resolution: wreck removal, damage to fixed objects, collision, smuggling, ship confiscation, oil pollution, cargo claims and charter party disputes.
Agency and distribution agreements, sale and purchase of assets and shares, minority shareholders’ rights and fraud, to mention but a few.
Jonathan’s capital markets experience while in New York involved working with senior management on due diligence investigations and prospectus drafting for corporate and sovereign bond issuers in Latin America, stock and asset purchase agreements and management buy-out negotiations.
Industry sectors have ranged over coffee, fishing, paper, banking, heavy machinery, mining, sugar, soya, steel and iron ore trades.
